Planning Tips

Hire a coordinator. Wedding coordinators are not only trained professionals – they are also life savers for you and your family. Whether you are looking for full coordination from day 1 or just day-of coordination on your wedding day, coordinators can take so much stress away from both you and your family. Coordinators will do everything from event design to keeping all of your vendors straight. They will coordinate your ceremony to make sure everyone walks at just the right time – and most importantly – keep you focused on the joy of your wedding day and not the little details. They are worth every penny spent.

Day-Of Advice

St. Ann Cottage at Bourbon Orleans

Schedule 10-15 mins for a private dinner with just the Wedding Couple away from the reception if possible. This gives you time to eat, relax and enjoy a moment together alone before entering the reception!

My number one tip would be to plan the appropriate amount of time to take pictures prior to the ceremony, or if you are not doing a first look, add time onto your reception. My couples that wait to see each other down the aisle and have to take pictures after always wish they had added time!

Hotel Mazarin

The issue I run into quite often is bride’s not having someone in their party or family who knows how to Bustle the dress. My advice it to make sure the Bride and someone from their party knows how to bustle the dress and practice it prior to the day of the wedding. This will relieve some stress on the wedding day!

Sentiments to help you “Go With The Flow”

Part of the reason why you may be choosing a destination wedding in New Orleans is the laid back culture, so embrace this! Whether it’s a parade passing by during the exchanging of vows, crazy people yelling things while you’re taking their photos throughout the Quarter, or the bananas foster setting off the fire alarm (yes, I’ve seen this happen…), years from now you will forget all the stresses and just laugh it off. If anything, it will give you great stories!

Be ready for changes. Remember that you can’t control everything on your wedding day. It’s okay if your pictures didn’t start right on time or that the flower girl threw a temper tantrum or if you have to move your ceremony because of rain. Focus on the reason for the day and not the minute details. The more that you are able to let go of the small stuff, the more relaxed you will be for the most important part – getting married!
